Program Fees

In order to enroll in the CMT Program you must become an Affiliate member of the Market Technicians Association.  Once you join as an Affiliate member you can enroll in the program and register for the exam.

Scheduling Your Examlogo_prometric_white

Once you complete your exam registration you will be redirected to the Prometric website to schedule your exam. The name you use to register for the exam must match what is on your primary form of identification. To schedule your exam at Prometric, click here.

You will receive a confirmation containing the date and time of your exam and the location of the test center.  Please print a copy of the confirmation and bring it with you to the testing center.

Day of Your Exam

You should bring a copy of your printed exam confirmation and two forms of current ID.  At least one of these must include a photograph and bear a signature.  Acceptable forms of primary identification include: valid passport, driver's license (with signature), employee ID card (with photograph) and state ID card.  Acceptable forms of secondary ID include: valid credit card, ATM card, check-cashing card, citizenship card.  Candidates taking the exam outside their country of citizenship must present a valid passport. Candidates should also bring a pencil, a ruler and a simple calculator to the test center.  The testing center will supply paper upon request.

At certain Prometric test center locations, you will need to pay for parking, including cash only parking lots.

Cancellation Policy

Candidates who register before the late registration period may request a cancellation of their exam and will be eligible for up to a full refund within two weeks of payment. Candidates registering after August 15, 2016 may request a cancellation of their exam and will be eligible for up to a full refund minus the test center administration fees within two days of payment.

You must provide a confirmation of your cancellation from Prometric to receive your refund.


Deferments are ending in 2016 and will not be eligible after the October 2016 test administration. Candidates who have deferred their exam from past test administrations must sit for the deferred exam or forfeit the registration fee.

Retake Insurance

The MTA will now provide candidates the opportunity to insure their upcoming exam with the purchase of a pre-scheduled retake exam date. The retake insurance is available at the time of registration at reduced cost; $100 on Level I and $150 on Level II. There is no insurance retake option for Level III.


Candidates who are unsuccessful in their October exam will have the opportunity to sit for a retake of the same level exam on Dec 1st, 2016. The retake exam is offered for $150 on Level I and $225 on Level II if purchased after results are provided. There is no immediate retake option for Level III.
